Mr. Roberts Binde, the Honorary Consul of Colombia in Latvia, was awarded with the Order of San Carlos
Mr. Roberts Binde, the Honorary Consul of Colombia in Latvia, was awarded with the Order of San Carlos at an official ceremony on April 8 this year. The order was presented by the Ambassador of Colombia in Latvia Victoria Gonzalez Ariza and the Director of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia Juan Guillermo Castro (Juan Guillermo Castro). Senior officials of Latvia Dzintars Rasnačs, Sergejs Mirskis, Jānis Tutins honoured the award ceremony with their presence.
The Order of San Carlos is awarded to Colombian citizens and foreigners who have devoted their work to improve the image of Colombia, especially in the field of international relations. Roberts Binde has held the position of the Honorary Consul of Colombia in Latvia for already ten years and throughout this period he has provided support to the Colombian Embassy as well as helped strengthen the political, commercial and cultural relations between the two countries.
The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Colombia in Latvia was opened in July 7, 2005 with Roberts Binde as its Honorary Consul. The opening of the Consulate was an important event in the bilateral relationship between Latvia and Colombia. Shortly after that, Carolina Barco, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Colombia, paid an official visit to Latvia with other senior officials accompanying her in this official delegation. This was the first high-level meeting with a government official from Colombian government in the history of Latvia.
The Honorary Consulate of Colombia in Latvia supported the enlargement of commercial ties by organising a trip for the Latvian entrepreneurs to the capital city Bogot, and also it supports various cultural exchange events both in Latvia and Colombia by organizing the Salsa Festival in Riga, donating Colombian books to the Latvian Library, Latvian university and the Academy of Culture, etc.
